Project Details

This roof restoration project was carried out on a family home in Scarborough. The existing tiled roof was looking worn out and weathered with chipped tiles and surface dirt and grime. A total roof restoration was required to restore the roofs protective weatherproofing qualities and to rejuvenate the roofs appearance.

The Problem

The old tiled roof had become worn and damaged over the years due to its exposure to the corrosive coastal conditions in Perth. Chips and cracks in the tiles could lead to breaches in the roof waterproofing. Surface dirt, as well as moss, lichen, and algae would accelerate future weathering and damage. The salt, sun, and storms of the coast had prematurely aged the roof and repairs were required before the weathering of the roof would lead to leaks and structural damage.

What We Did

Our team began by carefully inspecting the entire roof surface and structure including all the tiles, ridge caps, valleys, and flashings. Damaged tiles were removed and replaced with matching products to restore a sealed surface. Ridge caps were re-bedded and re-pointed with a flexible, strong mortar to improve stability and prevent shifting.

We then cleaned the entire roof surface with a high-pressure washer set to 3000 PSI. This removed all dirt, moss, algae, and biological growth from the roof. An anti-fungal treatment was then applied to sterilise the roof and inhibit the future return of moss.

We primed the entire roof with Dulux Acratex primer to improve coating adhesion. Then two coats of Acratex Roof Membrane were spray applied in a colour to match the existing tiles. The finished roof coating was now durable, UV resistant, and waterproof, capable of withstanding Perth’s coastal weather.

The Final Result

The entire project was carried out efficiently and without interruption to the customer within 3 days. The roof now has a durable and renewed finish, and a 10 year guarantee is provided for both materials and workmanship. The roof now has a significant uplift in its appearance and will be protected from the weather for many years to come.
