About this Project
The roof of a residential home in Balcatta was starting to look faded and tired. The existing paint was chalky and flaking in some areas. The property owners had owned the house for a few years and the roof coating was losing its protective properties and resilience after years of battling Perth’s coastal climate. The surface of the roof required a new coat of paint to make it look like new and provide some long-term protection.
The Problem
The existing roof coating had degraded and lost its UV and weatherproof properties. This had resulted in the paintwork fading and chalking on the surface with some localised flaking and peeling. The roof coating had failed and was no longer providing protection from the elements. If left untreated the chalking and peeling would get progressively worse and could allow the roof to deteriorate further. Moisture and UV penetration from the sun would be increased as would the risk of salt damage and contamination. The peeling and chalking paintwork also reduced the overall kerb appeal of the home.
What We Did
We started the project by performing a thorough pressure clean of the roof surface to remove any moss, dirt, lichens, and loose paint residues. After inspecting the entire roof and cleaning all debris away, we prepped the roof surface by removing all loose and flaking material. This is an important step to ensure that the new coating adheres strongly to the surface.
We then spray-applied a Dulux Acratex primer onto the roof to provide a strong, stable base for the top coat. After it had dried, we spray-applied 2 coats of Dulux Acratex Roof Membrane in the colour of the client’s choice. The coating was chosen for its outstanding UV resistance and ability to tolerate salt spray and offer long-term durability. We ensured the finish was smooth and even for a professional result.
The Final Result
The new roof coating was chosen to provide an attractive, smooth finish that would brighten up the whole home and increase kerb appeal.
